Meet the Worker Heroes of Nia: Real Stories from UP, Bihar & Chhattisgarh

Behind every building that touches the skyline, every parcel delivered on time, and every warehouse that runs like clockwork — there’s a worker who left his village with hope and hustle. At Marketplace Company, we call them the Heroes of Nia.

This ground campaign across UP, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh isn’t just about data. It’s about people. Through real worker stories, we are showcasing the journeys of early adopters — gig workers who trusted Nia during uncertain transitions and found more than jobs. They found a new life.

Meet Roshan, 22 — From Begusarai to Bangalore

Roshan came to the city with one goal: send money home. But upon arrival, he found no support — no place to stay, no food, no work. That changed when he discovered our onboarding support center near Majestic Bus Stand.

“Nia ka app aur madad ne mujhe akela feel nahi hone diya,” he says.
(“Nia’s app and the people there made sure I didn’t feel alone.”)

We helped Roshan find safe housing, got him a job with a verified employer, and connected him to local food vendors. His first paycheck wasn’t just money — it was dignity.

Today, Roshan is one of our community champions, guiding newcomers from his home state to settle with confidence.

Salma, 28 — A Delivery Hero from Raipur

Salma broke barriers not just by moving to a city, but by entering a male-dominated industry. After facing rejection from several platforms, she joined Nia through our women-first job leads.

“Mujhe samajhne wale kam log miley, par Nia pe har sawal ka jawab mila.”
(“I didn’t find many who understood me, but Nia answered every question I had.”)

Today, Salma handles over 50 deliveries a day and uses WhatsApp support to resolve queries instantly. She was recently featured in our Instagram Worker Spotlight campaign.

Her story proves that gig work for women isn’t just possible — it’s powerful.

Manoj, 35 — Building Cities, One Brick at a Time

A skilled mason from Gaya, Manoj migrated to Noida in search of better pay. But middlemen drained his earnings and offered no security. Through Nia, he directly connected to verified vendors and received fair wages and job stability.

“Pehli baar lagta hai ki system mere liye bana hai,”
(“For the first time, it feels like a system is built for me.”)

We featured Manoj’s journey in our recent worker onboarding film, now used in village info sessions across Bihar.

The Digital Shift: From Fear to Confidence

Most workers arrive in cities with smartphones but very little digital fluency. Through our multilingual platform, we’ve created intuitive UX experiences that mimic the comfort of WhatsApp and reduce hesitation.

We saw that local language onboarding dramatically increased app usage and trust. Workers like Roshan and Salma now assist peers in downloading and navigating the app — unlocking access to jobs, meals, housing, and emergency support.

This isn’t just a feature — it’s empowerment through design.

What Makes Nia Different?

Nia is not just a marketplace. It’s a worker-first platform built with the voices of those it serves. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Verified Jobs with Housing Options

  • Real-Time Support in Local Languages

  • Meal Plans, Vendor Access, and Safety Hotlines

  • Offline Assistance at Worker Help Desks

  • Community-driven Growth & Referrals

Every experience is shaped by feedback from our frontline heroes.

Where We're Going Next

Based on field data and user feedback, we’re now building:

These are more than features — they are answers to lived realities.

A Word from Our Founder

“Tech should solve for the smallest need — not the flashiest feature,” writes Sachin Chhabra on his Substack.
“At Nia, every product decision starts with one question: Will this help a worker settle in the city better?

You can also read more about our ground insights and impact in Marketplace Substack, where we cover topics like migrant support systems, ground campaigns, and blue-collar tech innovation.

Final Word: Heroes Walk Among Us

Roshan, Salma, and Manoj are just a few names among thousands. Each has shown resilience, grit, and a willingness to begin again. Our job isn’t to save them. It’s to support them, amplify them, and build systems that respect them.

With every worker we onboard, with every journey we enable, Nia becomes more than an app — it becomes a movement.

Powered by our Nia Kiya movement — new intent, real impact.
